Castillo’s advertises itself as the “Best Kitchen in Town” and I think they’re on to something. This is one of my favorite spots.

Talking with one of the owners recently, he told me they had another restaurant in the Katy area for 25 years, “but this one is my baby” he said. I get that vibe.

The food is terrific, in generous portions, the service is good, and the people there are just nice. Nice people are lux mundi — a light in the world.

At my most recent visit I asked about the delicious tortillas and he told me they are homemade and prepared to order — the dough is pressed and cooked when your order is made, so it comes out hot and fresh. I have also had their migas plate (wonderful for breakfast or any time), and my wife had their cheese enchiladas. Happy diners.

Recommendation: go to Castillo’s and eat everything.

Barbacoa on corn tortilla with cilantro and onions

Migas at Castillo’s with a little chorizo on the beans. Yes, I like salt.
